Mae Muller tops the charts as this year’s fan favourite to take home Eurovision glory for UK
As the excitement gathers for the 67th Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final, this year’s spectacle sees the UK city of Liverpool host in honour of last year’s winners, Ukraine. With Eurovision week well underway, data from Entain, the global sports betting, gaming, and interactive entertainment group, reveals that Eurovision fans are predicting that the UK will take first place in Saturday’s finale, raking in just over 14% of bets to win the contest.1
This year’s contest sees the UK put its faith in its own entry, with 17% of Entain’s UK customers betting on Mae Muller to take home the trophy.2 This is an increase from 12% in 2022 and comes after the UK’s Sam Ryder won over Eurovision fans around the world, securing second place last year.3
Sweden’s 2023 entry and 2012 victor, Loreen, takes only 10% of bets to win.4 However, 43% of Swedish fans are betting on Loreen to be crowned the 2023 winner, making Sweden the most patriotic country of the contest.5
And despite being the reigning champions, less than 10% of fans are predicting that Ukraine’s entry, Tvorchi, will take first place, a significant change from last year when 28% of fans across the world predicted the winner correctly.6
Cultural events like Eurovision are attracting new fans every year, and opening up new recreational audiences to Entain, with data gathered from the group’s portfolio of leading UK brands including Ladbrokes and Coral, showing an increase of over 23% in the total bets staked on the competition.7
Dominic Grounsell, Chief Commercial Officer at Entain, said: “Each year, Eurovision allows millions of people to come together in a celebration of music and take pride in their country’s national culture, creating moments of excitement for fans across the globe. Entain is proud to provide fans of the contest with a platform to engage with in new ways, bet on their favourites, and most importantly, have fun!”
Eurovision is the longest-running annual international televised music competition and one of the longest-running television programmes in history, with approximately 180 million television viewers tuning in each year since 1956.8 As the UK hosts the contest for the ninth time in its history, Muller’s I Wrote A Song is the first British entry to debut within the Top 40 Chart in its first week since the 2011 entry, Blue’s I Can.9
